Perfect for those with a taste for adventure and looking to get off the beaten track and into the wilderness.  Travel downriver on a bamboo raft, stopping off at a small riverside Lahu tribe village for the evening, enjoying local dishes in the homestay, and gaze up the stars enjoying the peace and serenity of the surroundings.   On day 2 guests will hike out of the forest along a 5km trail through the mountains of Chiang Mai enjoying spectacular views along the way, or alternatively guests can continue to raft to the end point.

Day 1
Enjoy a fresh coffee in the Trailhead Café before heading 2 hours north of the city to the starting point of the rafting adventure in our comfortable air-conditioned transportation.  After a safety briefing we will head downstream to a small Lahu tribe village which clings to the side of the mountain alongside the river.  Along the way there will be plenty of opportunities for photos and swimming as well as admiring the amazing birdlife in the area.  There will be small sections of rapids reaching class 1-2 but for the most part the river flows gently down the valley.  Once in the village guests can wander around, take photos and swim or simple relax in the homestay.  The concept of a homestay is to provide a glimpse into how the locals live day by day and so sleeping arrangements are very simple, however mattresses, bedding and mosquito nets are provided to make your stay a comfortable one.  Guests will enjoy a simple yet delicious local dinner in the evening cooked on the homestay balcony and relax gazing at the stars and enjoying each others company.

Day 2
Guests will start the day with a light breakfast as the sun rises over the mountain to light up the river valley and watch the locals go about their daily life.  Once packed and ready to go, guests will hike out of the village along a mountain trail for 5km passing through dense forest and steep mountains.  The climb up the mountain is quite steep so a decent level of fitness is recommended but guests have the option of completing the remainder of the journey via bamboo raft.  Upon reaching the car we will load up, change clothes and drive to a delightful riverside restaurant for a delicious meal.  There will be plenty more photo opportunities in the grounds of the restaurant before we finish the tour and head back to Chiang Mai city.

An adventurous journey into parts unknown experiencing the unique Lahu culture!

What Can I Expect?

Rafting takes place on a gentle stretch of river with sections of relatively fast flowing water up to class 1-2 in the wet season.  Emphasis is on enjoying the scenery, nature and the adventurous aspect of the journey and not adrenaline action.  The village is completely off the grid so whilst the homestay has some basic amenities and bedding so hotel type facilities should not be expected.  If you’re inclined you’re welcome to provide some old clothes as a donation to the village, or donation or snacks for the kids.
