A dream trip for outdoor adventure enthusiasts exploring thick jungle, deep gorges, and clear waters over 2 days of kayaking on this unique adventure with Trailhead Thailand.  Explore parts unknown as you meander your way along a beautiful lake in Lampang province.  Spend the night in your own cosy tent on a secluded lakeside bluff with no access other than by boat and enjoy the peace and tranquility as you gaze up at the stars next to a warm camp fire.

Day 1

After pick up from the city center, Trailhead Thailand will drive the 90 minutes journey in comfortable transportation to the start point at Kiw Lom dam in Lampang province to begin the adventure.  Along the way we will stop at a market to buy some fresh ingredients for dinner as well as to enjoy lunch at a well-known noodle shop.   After a safety briefing our team will give an overview on preparing the Oru kayaks before setting off for 3-4 hours kayaking across the reservoir, an area surrounded by dense forest and stunning karst rock formations.  There will be plenty of time for photo opportunities and playing in the cool, clear water with island stops on the way to the camping area for the overnight stay.

Cozy tents will be set up on a small island on the lake with beautiful views overlooking the water and surrounding mountains.  Tents, bedding and meals will be provided leaving guests to swim, relax and enjoy their evening under the stars in the peace and serenity of the surroundings.

Day 2

Starting the day early with a light breakfast and delicious hot fresh coffee, camping gear will be packed away, and the final leg of the kayaking trip will start with another 3-4 hours of kayaking before reaching the end destination.  This next stage will pass through a stunning narrow gorge with tall cliffs either side dotted with caves and even the opportunity to see monkeys! As we paddle through the gorge, the terrain opens out to a wide bay with rolling countryside, cornfields and small fishing huts dotted around the waters edge.

The kayaking journey will end at the northern end of the reservoir in a small fishing village where we will enjoy a lakeside lunch in a local restaurant.  The tour is not quite completed however, as on the way back to Chiang Mai we will stop off at Wat Chalerm Prakiat – one of the most unique temples in Thailand which seem to float in the clouds as they sit perched on pinnacles of cliffs.  A welcome nap can be enjoyed from here as the 2 hour journey back to Chiang Mai marks the completion of the tour.

A truly unique and memorable adventure in northern Thailand unlike any other!

What Can I Expect?

Expect gentle kayaking for several hours on a flat lake, no experience is required but confidence in water will enhance the tour enjoyment.  We will endeavor to make the overnight camping as comfortable as possible but as with any outdoor adventure you can expect creepy crawlies, inclement weather and ‘rouging it’ conditions.  If you need your creature comforts, then this trip may not be for you!
